Frequently asked questions

Not all types of support required by a person living with a disability fall under the responsibility of the NDIS.

In general, the NDIS will fund reasonable and necessary supports that help a person living with a disability enjoy an ordinary life.

These supports and services fall into three categories – Core, Capital and Capacity building.
People eligible for a NDIS plan need to think about their personal needs and goals and the support they will need to achieve those goals. This could include something as simple as learning to do your own washing, making new friends or bigger goals such as looking into independent housing, seeking employment or planning for a holiday.
No, NDIS will only pay for the staff support – you will need to pay for the cost of the holiday tickets and accommodation from your own personal funds, as well as cover your carer’s ticket.
Most people requiring transport will have funds directed to their personal account specifically for that use.
Yes, it’s always a good idea to factor flexibility in your plan so when something special or different arises, there is the opportunity to change or add to what you have.
Yes, you can access short-term accommodation from your core supports as long as there are sufficient funds available.
If you are receiving Mobility Allowance when you receive an approved NDIS plan, your eligibility for the Mobility Allowance payment ceases.
The NDIS has a change of circumstances form and you can always request a review for your changes.
